10-19-2011 CDL checkpoint in Hawthorne, CA is aborted after a free lunch at US Tow. The department was not satisfied with the reduced flow of vehicles after my sign warned motorists of checkpoint ahead, so after lunch, they use good old fashioned racial profiling and illegal stops to make their quota of impounded cars.. Vehicles were pulled over for no reason, then impounded in mass. At one point the checkpoint was still set up, with no police present. Just signs, cones etc. HPD has the worst checkpoints in the south bay as far as following the law set by the courts. Instead of warning motorists headed for the checkpoint, they warn motorists who are not headed in that direction, tricking them into turning into it. I am sure they are pleased with themselves over this creative act of fraud used against anybody passing through the city of good neighbors. Allowing the 4th amendment to be set aside a few days a month, makes sure that it will never be respected on any days of the month...as is proven by the tactics used in this checkpoint. Sorry Hawthorne, you cant treat people like crap, and expect not to have critics, especially when your actions are so clearly wrong. Please spend the grants on creating safer roads, rather then stealing(aka promoting safety)...thank you.
